ACULIS CEO James Stone Appointed President of UVU's Computer Science Industrial Advisory Board
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - February 21, 2008 - ACULIS CEO, James Stone will preside over Utah Valley University's (UVU) Computer Science Industrial Advisory Board. The appointment followed a year of stellar success for Stone and ACULIS, Inc., an industry leader in custom software development services, being named as Utah's fourth-fastest growing company. *
As President of the Computer Science Industrial Advisory Board, Stone will be assisting with the ongoing development of the Computer Science Program and Software Engineering Program at UVSC, with duties including developing Program Objectives, Program Outcomes, Curriculum Review and Development.
In July 2008, UVSC will become Utah Valley University (UVU), and the School of Technology and Computing is eager to be part of the transformation. Assistant Dean Don Savage says, "Our goal was to appoint an experienced industry player who championed our approach to engaged learning, skill-building, collaborative, hands-on experiences over independent courseware. Stone surpassed our expectations. His visions for integrative IT development practices—and his deep network of industry connections—allow us to step forward with the most effectual IT curriculum in the region."
"This is a program that prepares students to conceptualize, create, and manage integrated world-class technology systems in a format that reflects real-world discovery, challenges and solutions," says Stone. "We plan to integrate the programs with a thread of quality assurance to incorporate and take advantage of the new ACULIS / UVU testing facility."
"Before launching ACULIS, I saw a need for a more flexible, scalable, targeted model for software development and testing," Stone says. "Since then, our team has defined, refined, and tested that model across the IT landscape. The result? ACULIS grew by 5000% in revenue from 2002 to 2007. It's a model that works—it's a model we want to deliver to the students of UVU."
Stone's plan is supported by substantial experience, Department Chair Abraham Teng, PhD, points out. "We look forward to the involvement of James Stone and ACULIS in building programs and education tracks that bring innovation, real-world experience, and excitement to our computer science and software engineering programs."
